In chapters one and two the Lord points out Israel's sins. He will always show us our deeds. He says there is consequences for them.
In chapter three we see He sends a witness. Amos was chosen to bear witness. The message is not always well received. Today we are to be His witness of how he works in our lives.
In chapter four we see how the Lord sometimes uses different means of trying to bring us back. Sometimes they are natural, sometimes induced by the Lord to restore us.
In chapter five we see where all of this is to prepare us for the day of the Lord. His desire is for that to be a time of joy for us. He sends His message through His word and the holy spirit guides us in all truth. Are we listening to the Lord? His plan is always best.

2nd Kings 1-4
We start 2nd Kings by experiencing God's judgment on King Ahaziah for not following his ways. He then inquired knowledge from the wrong source. God had to send Elijah to speak the truth and His judgment.
In chapter 2 we see the Lord calling Elijah home. He followed the Lord's instructions all the way. We see He still had God's power and the Lord transferred that to Elisha. He performed miracles that confirmed the Lord's decision to have him succeed Elijah.
In chapter 3 we see the three Kings going up against Mesha, King of the Moabites. The Lord allowed them to run out of water so they would inquire of Him through Elisha, and when they believed Him He delivered the Moabites into their hands.
In chapter 4 we experience five miracles God used Elisha to perform. The widows oil that flowed to keep the creditors from taking her sons, the birth and reviving of the Shunammite woman's son, purifying the poison pot of stew, and feeding of a multitude of men from loaves of barley and some grain.
We get to see what happens when we trust God and walk in his ways, when we ask the right source to meet our needs, and when we trust God for the answer to our problems. We then see the way the Lord works in every situation to meet our needs. He wants to be the solution. Will you let Him? Give it to the Lord. He tells us in Luke 11:9 "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.11"Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (NIV)
